Colder temperatures return to the central and eastern U.S. and winter holds a bit longer across the north.

A strong cold front is forecast to reach the East Coast by Friday morning, dropping temperatures on the order of 15 to 30 degrees by Saturday. Some lingering showers will be possible behind the front, and snow showers are possible across parts of the Great Lakes and the Northeast on Friday. But tonight, heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms are expected for the Gulf Coast and Florida.
