On July 7, 2015, NWS implemented changes to the icons depicted on all of its point-forecast pages. Changes include new icon images with increased clarity, 6-hour increments for rapidly changing weather and new color blocks to highlight forecast hazards.

Changes to the icons were based on analysis of 6,700 public comments collected in 2014. Also, many of these changes are based on the results of a research project led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Users are encouraged to continue to provide comments regarding these changes via email at icons@noaa.gov. NWS will continue to analyze incoming feedback and refine the icons as necessary. Any substantial change to the icons will be facilitated through the NWS public comment/review process.

Dangerous heat continues across parts of the Pacific Northwest

Unusually hot weather will persist on Friday and into the weekend across parts of the Pacific Northwest, with high temperatures on Friday in the 90s to around 100 degrees for many locations. Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect across the region.
