On July 7, 2015, NWS implemented changes to the icons depicted on all of its point-forecast pages. Changes include new icon images with increased clarity, 6-hour increments for rapidly changing weather and new color blocks to highlight forecast hazards.

A page depicting all of the new icon images can be accessed here: www.weather.gov/forecast-icons

Changes to the icons were based on analysis of 6,700 public comments collected in 2014. Also, many of these changes are based on the results of a research project led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Users are encouraged to continue to provide comments regarding these changes via email at icons@noaa.gov. NWS will continue to analyze incoming feedback and refine the icons as necessary. Any substantial change to the icons will be facilitated through the NWS public comment/review process.

Hot Weather Over Much of the U.S.

Highs in the low to mid 90s will be common from the central and southern Plains across the southeast and into the mid-Atlantic. Highs over 100 will be common in the desert southwest. The hot weather is expected to continue in many areas through the Labor Day weekend.
