442 FNUS55 KABQ 220906 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 306 AM MDT Wed May 22 2024 ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 12PM MDT THROUGH 8PM MDT THURSDAY FOR UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO DUE TO GUSTY WEST WINDS, EXTREMELY LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE... .DISCUSSION... Higher surface moisture and cooler temperatures across eastern New Mexico today thanks to a backdoor front moving through the area this morning. Warm, very dry and unstable conditions continue across western and central New Mexico. A disturbance will move east across the northern and central Rockies and increase winds aloft over the state on Thursday. Deep mixing will result in breezy to windy and gusty conditions by afternoon. Localized critical fire weather conditions are possible across western and central NM Thursday afternoon with longer duration critical fire weather conditions across the upper Rio Grande Valley and eastern New Mexico Thursday afternoon and evening. Less wind on Friday behind the departing disturbance. Widespread critical fire weather conditions are anticipated Saturday as a more potent disturbance moves directly overhead. Winds stay somewhat elevated on Sunday with very dry conditions continuing. Potential for some critical fire weather conditions across eastern New Mexico. Lighter winds areawide next week and high pressure builds overhead. Additionally, higher moisture moves into eastern New Mexico.
