However, winds will become strong areawide on Saturday as an upper level trough draws the jetstream over New Mexico with widespread critical fire weather conditions over the northwest half of the fire weather forecast area. Critical-to-extreme fire weather conditions are forecast over the southeast half of the forecast area on Saturday, where wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected with Haines Indices varying from 5 to 6. In the wake of the upper level trough on Sunday, winds will trend weaker while remaining strong enough for one more day of critical fire weather conditions across the Central Highlands. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Highlands today from 3 to 7 PM, and Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM. * 20 FOOT WINDS...For today, south and southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
