...FLOOD WATCH FOR AN ICE JAM REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is possible.

* WHERE...The Yukon River downstream of Pilot Station including near
  St Mary`s and Pitkas Point.

* WHEN...Through Tuesday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Water levels are high at St. Mary`s and Pitkas Point. If
  another ice jam forms, water could rise further and cause flooding
  in low lying areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - The ice jam downstream of Pilot Station released around 3:30
    pm Sunday afternoon, and the ice started moving at Mountain
    Village at 4:30 pm Sunday. Water levels at Mountain Village
    went up approximately 5 feet Sunday night. Water levels
    remain high at Mountain Village, St Mary`s and Pitkas Point
    today. If another ice jam forms, the water levels could rise
    and cause flooding of low lying areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Pitkas Point and St. Mary`s residents should continue to monitor
river conditions through Tuesday morning as the ice and water
continue to move downstream. Significant rises in water levels
remain possible. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

...FLOOD WATCH FOR AN ICE JAM REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY
MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is possible.

* WHERE...The Yukon River from Mountain Village to the Yukon Delta
  Coast.

* WHEN...Through Friday morning.

* IMPACTS...Ice jams may result in flooding from Mountain Village to
  the Yukon Delta Coast. Low lying areas near Mountain Village could
  flood today through Tuesday. Low Lying areas downstream near
  Emmonak, Alakanuk, Nunam Iqua and Kotlik have potential to flood
  late Tuesday night through Friday. If an ice jam forms, water
  could rise rapidly.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - The Yukon River broke up to past Mountain Village on Sunday
    May 19. The breakup front will likely reach Emmonak and
    Alakanuk between Tuesday night and Friday, based on historic
    trends. There is potential for flooding in Emmonak, Alakanuk,
    Nunam Iqua and Kotlik as breakup progresses. Though this year
    has mostly been a thermal breakup for the Yukon River, an ice
    jam did form and release May 19 downstream of Pilot Station
    which led to flooding. This run of ice could lead to high
    water downstream. In addition, satellite imagery depicts
    minimal degradation of shorefast ice along the Yukon Delta
    Coast. This may exacerbate the situation as shorefast ice
    could impede the breakup push and lead to backwater in
    communities closest to the coast.

...FLOOD WATCH FOR SNOWMELT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY, MAY 29...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt is possible.

* WHERE...The Porcupine River at Ft Yukon, including the city of
  Fort Yukon.

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday, May 29.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  sloughs and other low-lying and flood-prone locations near Fort
  Yukon. High water will begin in low lying areas on the east side
  of Fort Yukon from the middle to the end of week, with possible
  flooding developing over the weekend. This will be a slow-onset
  flood, then slow to recede event.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Breakup is underway on the Porcupine River east of the border
    with high water levels due to snowmelt from a much wetter
    than average winter. The Porcupine River below Old Crow
    (Canada) crested at 53.56 ft on May 19, while the Porcupine
    River gage closer to the US border had a record crest of
    53.57 ft on May 19. This high water will likely reach Fort
    Yukon by midweek, at which point the Porcupine may cause the
    Sucker River to back up into low-lying areas on the east side
    of town, then spread through the swales westward. Based on
    historic norms, if flooding occurs, expect floodwaters to
    slowly peak on the weekend, then slowly recede next week.
    There is potential for this event to be very similar to
    flooding last year; however water levels on the Yukon River
    are not
    nearly as high as last year which could mitigate the
    situation.
