...NWS Damage Survey for May 24, 2024 Tornado and Derecho Event - Update #1...

After further analysis, three additional tornadoes have been identified from
the event during the early morning of May 24th - details below. A total of
four (4) tornadoes have now been confirmed from May 24th, along with many other
reports of straight line winds.

Survey Summary:
A tornado began about 3 miles north of Woodward and traveled east/northeast
for approximately 10 miles crossing the Des Moines River and State Highway 17.
Damage along the path was somewhat intermittent and consisted of mostly
tree and outbuilding damage.

A brief tornado occurred about 3 miles northeast of Indianola. A tornadic debris
signature was noted on radar and the Warren County emergency manager reported
mostly minor tree damage in this area. No structural damage was noted.

Survey Summary:

A brief tornado occurred about 3 miles south of Elkhart. One farmstead was impacted by
the tornado and sustained damage to outbuildings and vehicles.  Otherwise the tornado
remained over mainly open countryside.
