Winds are light south southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures are in the mid 50s north to the upper 50s in the southeast. Today will be partly sunny and milder with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s north while central to southern areas will see highs near near 80. Winds will increase to the south southeast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to near 30 mph in the northwest. It will feel a bit more summerlike in the afternoon as moisture begins to return to the region into the evening hours. Tonight and beyond: Tonight an approaching area of low pressure will bring showers and thunderstorms back into the state by late evening in the west. A line of strong to severe storms will be possible, gradually weakening overnight. Some of the storms may bring strong winds and a few tornadoes to the region overnight. Rainfall of an inch or more is also possible in some of the stronger storms. Lows will dip to the 50s to lower 60s. After the storms pull east Friday, highs will recover to the upper 60s northwest to the mid 70s southeast. Friday afternoon will be dry and dry conditions will remain into Saturday. Late Saturday evening another area of low pressure will spread rain and some thunderstorms into southern Iowa by late evening. A few stronger storms are possible along with another round of rainfall. The precipitation will linger Sunday into Monday before drier weather returns Monday night and Tuesday. Seasonal temperatures in the 60s and 70s are expected through midweek next week. $$ REV
