Warm, very dry, and breezy afternoons will continue each day
through the weekend. High temperatures will stay near or just
below average.

.DISCUSSION...

A shortwave will slide over the Borderland this afternoon and
evening allowing for breezy winds this afternoon and high clouds.
A pacific cool front associated with this shortwave will push
into western areas as early as 6/7PM tonight, exiting the CWA by a
bit after midnight tonight. Low end northwesterly breezes
possible with the frontal passage. Temperatures will dip only a
handful of degrees for Tuesdays high temperatures. Clouds dissolve
revealing clearing skies for much of the area Tuesday morning.
Breezy winds will persist each afternoon along with dry conditions
lasting through the weekend. Elevated fire weather conditions
will continue through at least the work week.

VFR conditions through the period at all terminals. We continue
with dry air over the region. Some high clouds continue to stream
by, but skies should trend toward clear overnight. Winds will
shift from 250-270 to 270-310 btwn 00-05Z as a Pacific frontal
boundary tracks from west to east across the region. Speeds will
drop btwn 02-04Z from 15G25kts to 12-22kts overnight. Tomorrow,
aft 18Z winds will increase back to 12-17G22-28kts.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 1221 PM MDT Mon May 20 2024

A pacific cold front will push in from the west early tonight and
will progress eastward through the early hours on Tuesday. Winds
will shift from the west to the northwest after the frontal
passage. Moisture associated with the front will bump up max RHs
into the 30-50% range west of the Rio Grande Valley and 20-40%
east of the Rio Grande. Tuesday will feature a continuation of
critical min RHs and breezy afternoon winds and will persist through
at least the work week. Fuels continue to dry and min RHs will
stay below critical thresholds through the foreseeable future.
Breezy winds are expected to stay below or just below critical
thresholds allowing for elevated fire weather conditions to
persist each day. Ventilation rates will stay excellent.
