...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1987, severe thunderstorms struck parts of Central
and South Central Texas with golf ball sized hail that,
along with torrential rains, destroyed 80 percent of the
crops in some areas.  In 1975, severe thunderstorms raked
parts of East Central Minnesota with golf ball sized hail
and winds that reached an incredible 110 mph.  The large
hail and destructive winds destroyed 50 mobile homes, 12
aircraft, one third of an elementary school and injured
55 people.
