Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
308 AM CDT Thu May 23 2024

.DISCUSSION...

There is a slight (20%) chance for a shower or storm near and
south of I-70 this morning, but otherwise dry conditions should
continue through Friday morning when thunderstorm chances increase
once again as a decaying line of storms nears the area. Despite
deep mixing heights today, especially north of I-72, the transport
winds running only around 10 kt (or less) will foster generally
fair vent rates. These may improve tomorrow given stronger
southerly winds, but more shallow mixing will limit them a bit.
Scattered showers and storms tomorrow could produce erratic,
strong wind gusts, torrential rain, and localized hail. Rain
chances diminish Saturday, though it might take fuels some time to
dry out wherever storms dump heavy rain on Friday.
