.SYNOPSIS...

A cool start today across the forecast area under northwest flow
aloft. Afternoon highs are forecast to trend upwards into the
weekend, before moderating through early next week as a couple
disturbances aloft reach Nevada. A well defined warming trend
will emerge by the middle to latter portion of next week as a
ridge of high pressure builds over the Intermountain West.

.SHORT TERM...Thursday.

Another chilly start is expected across Central and especially
northeastern Nevada today. Morning lows in the low to mid 30s are
likely to occur across Elko County, with other parts of the
forecast area seeing lows around 40 degrees. The cold morning
start will give way to a more moderate afternoon. Afternoon highs
are projected to rise a few degrees versus yesterday with partly
cloudy skies. Afternoon highs today will generally range from the
upper 60s to upper 70s across the district. No precipitation is
forecast to occur today in either Central or Northern Nevada.

.LONG TERM...Friday through next Wednesday.

A west to east flow is expected across northern and central
Nevada for Friday. An isolated shower/virga is possible in far
eastern Nevada as a convergent boundary sets up across the eastern
part of the US Highway 50 corridor through White Pine county.
Other areas will be partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the
70s and 80s. Winds will generally be light. Quiet and dry
conditions will be prevalent during the overnight with lows in the
40s and 50s.

A weak upper trough will begin to move east on Saturday. Not much
moisture is associated with this feature and some very light but
showers/virga/dry thunderstorm is possible in eastern and
northeastern Nevada for Saturday. Winds will be out of the west
and southwest a breezy with gusts to 35 mph in the afternoon.
Highs will generally be in the 80s. Look for a return to quiet
weather for the night time portion with lows in the 40s and 50s.

The trough will pass over the area Sunday but not too much will be
associated with it weather-wise. Winds will again be breezy during
the afternoon with gusts of 25 mph. Highs will be a little cooler
with readings in the 70s and 80s. Skies will be partly cloudy with
lows in the 40s and 50s for the night period.

An upper trough will move across northern British Columbia, Canada
for Monday. The forecast area will be at the southernmost tip and
light isolated to scattered showers are expected mainly north of
I-80. Highs Monday will be in the 80s with lows in the 40s and
50s.

Look for quiet weather returning Tuesday and Wednesday with
highs in the 80s and lows in the 40s.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions expected for the next 24 hours at all
terminals. Scattered to broken upper level clouds will be across
the area through Thursday with light afternoon WNW winds of 5-15
knots.

.HYDROLOGY...Flows on many small creeks and streams remain
elevated. The lower Humboldt continues to run strong with Battle
Mountain currently in action stage and Comus forecast to enter
action stage later in the coming days.

Wildhorse Reservoir resides in action stage and is forecast to
remain in action stage for the next several days.

Humboldt River at Battle Mountain remains in action stage and is
forecast to slowly fall below action stage later today.

Finally, Lamoille Creek will be hovering around action stage for
the next couple days and may even increase as temperatures slowly
climb higher in the afternoon period.
