Showers and thunderstorms are forecast this afternoon. Some storms may produce gusty winds to gale force, small hail, lightning strikes, and locally higher waves and reduced visibility. Squalls are expected to approach the upper tidal Potomac River by around 2:30 PM, then progress eastward at around 25 to 30 knots crossing the upper Chesapeake Bay, tidal Patapsco River, and middle tidal Potomac River between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. Squalls will cross the middle portions of the Chesapeake Bay, tidal Patuxent River, and lower tidal Potomac River between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, then cross the waters off southern Maryland between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Additional isolated activity is possible between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Mariners should remain alert if navigating the waters this afternoon, and be prepared to seek safe harbor quickly should hazardous weather threaten or Special Marine Warnings be issued. $$ DHOF
