Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
213 PM CDT Mon May 27 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather conditions continue this afternoon across
much of the area due to very low RH and gusty winds. Stronger
winds in the mountains will decrease through the week, but
critically dry fuels will still be a concern. Better moisture and
decreased winds will lower fire weather concerns late week into
the weekend. The caveat is the threat for fire ignitions from
lightning activity west of the Pecos River where extremely dry
fuels exist. This could produce a large wildfire if it were to
occur in complex terrain.
