Cronce && .SHORT TERM... Issued 337 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024 Today through Thursday: A cold front and associated surface trough are working their way through the area this morning. Showers and thunderstorms occuring along and ahead of this front have largely dissipated as of 330 AM, but some additional redevelopment is possible later this morning across the east, before the front pushes into Michigan. Slightly less humid air is expected in the area today, though temperatures will remain on the warm side, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Another shortwave and cold front will push into the area from the west late this afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected with this activity. With colder temperatures aloft, a few sporadic instances of marginally severe hail will be possible, along with gusty winds, as stronger momentum aloft is mixed down to the surface. This activity should clear the area shortly after midnight, with cooler and drier air building in behind the front. A cooler and windy day is expected for Thursday, with highs generally in the mid to upper 60s. West to northwest winds will gust to between 30 and 35 MPH. Scattered showers are expected from a stratocu deck in the afternoon, but should dissipate by mid evening. Boxell && .LONG TERM... Issued 337 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024 Thursday night through Tuesday: Breezy winds will continue for Friday and Saturday, as swift northwest flow remains in place over the region. Drier air in the mid levels will result in less cloud cover and lower rain chances on Friday, with highs warming to around 70. Another shortwave is expected to rotate through the area on Saturday, with a corresponding increase in PoPs into the 20-30 percent range. Highs Saturday are expected to be in the low to mid 70s. A final frontal passage on Sunday will bring another 20-30 percent chance for diurnal showers, along with slightly cooler highs around 70. We then begin to transition to a more zonal and eventually southwest flow pattern next workweek, with a corresponding warming trend into the mid week timeframe. Boxell && .AVIATION... Issued 1043 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024 Clouds are clearing from west to east this morning. Look for mostly sunny skies with possible VFR diurnal cu this afternoon. A round of showers and thunderstorms will spread into the area from west to east this evening and exit overnight. Look for breezy westerly winds on Thursday with some scattered showers under VFR ceilings. Cronce && .MARINE... Issued 337 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2024 A cold front and associated trough of low pressure will sweep across the lake this morning, turning winds to a westerly direction. A secondary cold front will move through the lake tonight, with gusty winds developing for Thursday. A Small Craft Advisory will very likely be needed for Thursday, and perhaps into Friday. A large area of low pressure will gradually move through southern Canada, just north of the Great Lakes through the end of the week. Winds will remain westerly and breezy through this period. Showers will be possible at times late week as shortwaves move through the broad cyclonic flow across the region. Boxell && .MKX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... WI...None.
