Rating: EF3 Estimated Peak Wind: 160 mph Path Length /statute/: 35.49 miles Path Width /maximum/: 700 yards Fatalities: 1 Injuries: 21 Start Date: 05/26/2024 Start Time: 08:01 PM CDT Start Location: 2 N Eddyville / Lyon County / KY Start Lat/Lon: 37.1104 / -88.0687 End Date: 05/26/2024 End Time: 09:15 PM CDT End Location: 1 N Mortons Gap / Hopkins County / KY End Lat/Lon: 37.2556 / -87.4721 Survey Summary: The tornado began just north of Eddyville and intensified quickly producing EF-2 damage near the Caldwell and Lyon County line. The track then continued into western Caldwell County weakening briefly north of Princeton. It then quickly reintensified and widened to its peak width of 700 yard destroying several mobile homes and wood and brick frame structures as it approached and moved just south of the Charleston community in western Hopkins County. It continued eastward just north of Interstate 69 destroying more mobile homes and at least one more permanent residence. Two mobile homes were destroyed just north of Morton`s Gap with a vehicle also flipped before the path abruptly ended just west of Interstate 69. Widespread significant tree damage was noted along the path. 46 buildings were either destroyed or sustained major damage along the path with another 52 structures sustaining damage. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ SGE/CW/JGG
