...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following
  county, Grayson.

* WHEN...Until 815 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 724 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain falling
    along the Virginia, North Carolina border, between Volney and
    Independence. Minor flooding is expected in this area. In
    addition, between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen in the
    south central part of the county from Buck Mountain to
    Independence.  Fox Creek, Bridle Creek, Sadle Creek, in
    addition to the Beaver Dam Creek near Independence will
    likely experience high water due to the excessive rain that
    occurred between 5PM and 7PM.
  - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch is possible
    through 8:15PM. This additional rain will result in minor
    flooding, especially if it occurs over the same area that got
    the heavy rain between earlier.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports
