Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure to the south will bring some warming through Monday
followed by minor daily variations through next weekend. The
marine layer will become shallower with night and morning coastal
low clouds only extending into western portions of the valleys by
Monday night.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Low clouds have filled in west of the mountains and have pushed
into some of the passes this morning. Breezy conditions continue
through the passes where gusts are anywhere from 30 to 50 mph.
Winds will slowly weaken through the morning. Marine layer clouds
should clear from the valleys by the early afternoon, but will
likely stick to the coastal areas through much of the day.
Elsewhere skies will remain clear. Today highs will be around 5 to
10 degrees higher than Saturday for inland areas, with the most
notable change in the mountains and deserts. Not much change at
the coast as the marine layer moderates temps.

More warming is expected for Memorial Day as an upper level high
over Mexico slowly expands westward and amplifies into the
Southern Rockies - a bit further east than previously forecast.
This will also cause the marine layer to become more shallow, only
extending into portions of the valleys Monday morning with better
clearing during the day. Through the middle of the week the upper
high continues to expand westward while we remain under weak
cyclonic flow with an upper low passing by well to the north.
Though there are some differences in the speed and amplitude of
this low, it remains far enough away that it won`t influence the
weather here much. Overall high temperatures will only fluctuate a
couple degrees every day and remain within 5 degrees above
normal: slightly below normal for the coasts and valleys and
slightly above normal in the deserts. A short wave ridge moves
across on Saturday for additional minor warming. Otherwise we`ll
see May Gray transition to June Gloom this week with a
continuation of night and morning low clouds and patchy fog,
mainly for the coastal areas and western valleys.
