Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tucson AZ
112 PM MST Sat May 25 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Coolest temperatures of the week today with windy
afternoons across the area. Temperatures on the incline tomorrow
and through the next week with high temperatures above normal and
the potential (~40%) to hit 100F in Tucson early next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Mainly clear skies across SE AZ today with
temperatures near to below normal this afternoon. In addition, breezy
afternoon winds continue with gusts up to 35 mph for much of the
area out east. This is due to the low sneaking past us to our
north. This will move out of the area by late tonight, bringing a
brief period of zonal flow before strong ridging develops. This
will help die down the winds, keep us dry, and bring the heat.

As of now, 100F is in the sights for Tucson for early next week.
On Monday there is a 24% chance of hitting 100F with a 44% chance
Tuesday and 37% Wednesday. Other than that, temperatures will be
in the mid to high 90s across the valleys and locally cooler in
the higher terrain through the entire week.

&&

.AVIATION...Valid through 27/00Z.
SKC thru end of valid pd. SFC winds WLY/SWLY 12-20 kts with gusts 22-
32 kts thru 26/02z. SFC winds aft 26/02z bcmg terrain driven and
less than 10 kts. Winds become WLY again Sunday afternoon but with
speeds 8-12 kts and occasional higher gusts. Aviation discussion not
updated for TAF amendments.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Breezy to locally winds today with critical fire
weather conditions mainly east of Tucson. A Red Flag Warning is in
effect until 9 pm for fire weather zone 152. Expect wind speeds 18-
25 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Minimum RH values will bottom out in
the single digits in valleys with poor to fair overnight recoveries.
Temperatures near typical values for late May this weekend, with
hotter afternoons likely next week. Sunday into next week expect
normal diurnal wind trends with occasional afternoon gustiness. Min
RH values will continue to be in the single digits.
