861 FXUS65 KVEF 282023 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 123 PM PDT Tue May 28 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions will continue across the region the next seven days with occasional breezy afternoons and temperatures several degrees above normal each day. && .DISCUSSION...through next Tuesday. A dry weather pattern with no significant impacts will persist across our region through early next week under a mean zonal flow aloft. A few low amplitude troughs are forecast to swing across the Pacific Northwest and brush the northern Great Basin enough to stir up afternoon southwest winds 15-25 mph this afternoon and Wednesday then again Saturday-Sunday. HIgh temperatures will remain several degrees above normal and will only fluctuate a few degrees during the entire period. Las Vegas will be within a degree or two of the century mark this afternoon and Wednesday then will likely reach 100 or above Thursday through Saturday before pulling back slightly Sunday and Monday. The ensemble clusters are in quite good agreement at depicting a broad high amplitude ridge beginning to build over the entire western and central U.S. by next Tuesday followed be further intensification the second half of next week leading to the potential for a significant heat wave. One feature that may keep temperatures from running away over our region is a cutoff low near the SoCal/Baja Coast which is forecast, especially by the ECMWF ensembles, to lift up the West Coast. There is not much indication that the low will entrain any moisture, but will bear watching. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Developing southwest winds early this afternoon with gusts around 20 knots will persist into this evening then speeds will diminish overnight through Wednesday morning. South-southeast components 6-10 knots will be likely late Wednesday morning through 22-23Z then southwest components should develop. No significant cloud cover. For the rest of southern Nevada, southwestern California, and northwestern Arizona...South-southwest winds gusting 20-25 knots will occur this afternoon into early evening across most of the region followed by diminishing gusts after sunset and winds around 10 knots or less overnight through Wednesday morning. The exception will be KDAG where gusts 25-30 knots will persist overnight then diminish early Wednesday morning. South-southwest winds gusting 15- 20 knots will occur Wednesday afternoon across the Mojave Desert Region and northwest winds gusting 15-20 knots for the Owens Valley and central Nevada. No significant cloud cover through the TAF period. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION/AVIATION...Adair For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
