141 FXUS65 KVEF 251944 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1244 PM PDT Sat May 25 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Quiet rest of the holiday weekend in store with warmer temperatures and less wind Sunday and Memorial Day. Stronger breezes return Tuesday and beyond while temperatures hover several degrees above normal. && .DISCUSSION...Through next Saturday. Radar has been detecting isolated light showers from near Panaca north to the White Pine County line. Much better organized convection has been occuring just east of the state line in west central Utah. This round of convection will come to an end early this evening as a shortwave trough moves further east into Utah. That will set the stage for a quiet rest of the holiday weekend as heights rise with a building ridge over the Four Corner states. That will translate to less wind and warmer temperatures coming tomorrow and Memorial Day. Model guidance has ridge axis to our east through Tuesday before heights are slightly suppressed by the passage of a trough moving by to our north mid-late week. The probability for stronger gusts of 20- 30 mph increases areawide, while there is a 30%-40% chance for gusts exceeding 30 mph in the more wind-prone western Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County. Temperatures will hover between 3-7 degrees above normal Tuesday-Saturday. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...A brief period of east to southeast winds is possible early this afternoon before gusty southwest winds redevelop after 20Z. Occasional gusts to 25kts will continue through mid-evening before ending before midnight. Light and variable winds are expected Sunday morning and early afternoon, followed by a better chance (40%) of southeast winds (120-150) developing after 21Z. If the southeast winds materialize, sustained speeds should remain less than 10kts with only a few occasional gusts to 15kts. VFR conditions will continue through Sunday. For the rest of southern Nevada, southwestern California, and northwestern Arizona...Conditions at the Las Vegas area TAF sites will be similar to KLAS, except for KHND, where winds will remain south to southwest throughout the period. West to northeast winds with occasional gusts to 20kts are possible at KBIH through early evening, followed by light northerly winds overnight into tomorrow morning. Gusty winds will persist at KDAG through this afternoon before diminishing overnight. Winds in the Colorado River Valley will be out of the south with speeds remaining less than 20kts. VFR conditions will continue at all sites through Sunday. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Pierce AVIATION...Planz For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
