Now that the front has cleared the area we`ll be left with NW flow,
drier weather and slightly cooler temperatures. Minimum RH values
will drop into the 30s this afternoon which will be a nice break
from the humidity. Highs today and tomorrow will be in the low to
mid 80s with cooler temps in the higher elevations of NE Georgia.

NW winds could be a little gusty today. Sustained at 10 to 15mph
with gusts up to 20mph. Gusty conditions are expected to be the
theme during the afternoon as long as the flow stays out of the NW
for the mid part of the week.

As the extended forecast period begins, broad ridging aloft will be
advancing into the eastern CONUS. A strong surface high associated
with the ridge will be centered over the Great Lakes region, which
will advance southeastward late in the week and into the weekend. As
a weak shortwave traverses the northwesterly flow ahead of the ridge
on Thursday, it will produce increase cloud cover across north and
central Georgia. Isolated light sprinkles also cannot be ruled out,
but dry air at the surface and the influence of the high should
inhibit any precipitation beyond that. After starting the morning in
the upper 50s to low 60s in north Georgia and mid 60s in central
Georgia, highs will be a bit cooler on Thursday afternoon compared
to the last couple of day, in mainly in the upper 70s in north
Georgia and low to mid 80s in central Georgia.

On Friday into Saturday, the ridge axis will move over the
Southeast, at which point the surface high will move towards the mid-
Atlantic coast. At this point, a CAD wedge will set up on the lee
side of the Appalachians and into north Georgia. This will lead to
continued cooler temperatures in north Georgia on Friday and
Saturday, as a result. The influence of the ridge and surface high
will largely inhibit rain chances on Friday and Friday night. On
Saturday, a shortwave will advance northeastward from the Great
Plains into the Midwest, with an associated surface low extending a
cold front into the Lower Mississippi River Valley region. This
front will advance eastward towards the forecast area on Saturday
night into Sunday, at which point chances for showers and
thunderstorms will begin to increase again. At this time, PoPs have
been limited to high-end chance given lingering model uncertainty on
the timing and evolution of this system.
