669 FNUS54 KHUN 230821 FWFHUN Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama National Weather Service Huntsville AL 321 AM CDT Thu May 23 2024 .DISCUSSION... Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this morning and become more widespread during the afternoon hours, mainly in northwestern Alabama and near the TN/AL border. A few storms could be strong to marginally severe producing damaging winds and small hail. Southwesterly 20 foot winds of 5 mph or less are expected today. Transport winds from the southwest or west between 10 and 15 mph are expected. Mixing heights should climb to between 5500 and 6500 feet in the afternoon. Afternoon relative humidity values will only drop to between 50 and 65 percent this afternoon. More widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected on Friday in northern Alabama. Some of these storms coule be strong to severe producing damaging winds and large hail. Southerly 20 foot winds around 6 mph or less are expected with southwesterly transport winds between 10 and 15 mph. Mixing heights should be higher in the afternoon climbing to around 7000 feet. Afternoon relative humidity values will only drop to around 60 percent. Wetting rainfall looks more likely in some parts of northern Alabama on Friday. Fog potential over the next few days: Not expecting any due to expected steady winds around 5 mph at night.
