...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1917, one violent and five strong tornadoes struck
Oklahoma and Southeast Kansas.One F4 tornado, with a
track 12 miles long and around 175 yards wide, struck 40
miles southwest of McAlester.  It killed 14 and injured
100.  An F3 tornado tracked 11 miles through Montgomery
County Kansas.Passing just north of downtown
Coffeyville, the twister killed 3 and injured 20.  Each
tornado caused around $500,000 damage.
