At 747 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Beech Grove, or near Indianapolis, moving northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Indianapolis, Greenwood, Lawrence, Beech Grove, Southport, New Whiteland, Cumberland, New Palestine, Warren Park, Homecroft, and Spring Lake. This includes the following highways... Interstate 65 between mile markers 98 and 108. Interstate 70 between mile markers 89 and 95. Interstate 74 between mile markers 93 and 100. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
