Issued at 1044 AM EDT Mon May 27 2024 Memorial Day is off to a sunny start here in the Florida Keys! Although it looks pretty out, dew points are in the upper 70s making our heat index between 100-105 degrees, so stay hydrated. Winds across the reef are currently 5 to 10 knots but could very briefly lull this afternoon. Another dry 12Z sounding was observed this morning but it is possible that some showers could spill over from mainland Florida impacting the Upper and Middle Keys this afternoon into evening. Went ahead and left PoPs alone for now but will be monitoring mainland Monroe closely to see if any updates are needed later today. && .MARINE... Issued at 1044 AM EDT Mon May 27 2024 There are currently no watches, warnings, or advisories in effect across the Florida Keys coastal waters. From synopsis, high pressure over the western North Atlantic will maintain light to gentle southeast to south breezes through Tuesday. Breezes will breifly lull this afternoon and then surge one more time overnight into Tuesday where breezes may occasionally become moderate. As the high slides further east into the Atlantic, breezes will slacken and become variable for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Another strengthening high pressure moves across the eastern United States and builds southward resulting in strengthening northeast to east breezes for late week. && .AVIATION... (15Z TAFS) Issued at 1044 AM EDT Mon May 27 2024 While a stray passing shower moving off South Florida may try to clip MTH this afternoon or evening, VFR conditions will prevail at both island terminals through the TAF period. Surface winds will be light and variable at times, but generally out of the southeast at 7 to 10 knots. && .CLIMATE... On this day in 1959, Marathon measured a record rainfall amount of 6.60".
