215 FXUS65 KLKN 260815 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 115 AM PDT Sun May 26 2024 .SYNOPSIS... A warming trend will begin as weak ridge of high pressure builds over the area. Afternoon highs will trend upwards into the mid 80s by Tuesday. An approaching Pacific Northwest trough will lead to a chance of showers and thunderstorms in northeastern Nevada on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Highs will moderate through the end of the work week, but will rebound next weekend. && .SHORT TERM...Sunday and Monday A cool start to this morning across the region after yesterday`s disturbance. However, temperatures will rise today across the Intermountain West as high pressure aloft begins to build over the area. Afternoon highs are forecast to trend upwards several degrees today, with highs in the mid to upper 70s generally occurring across the forecast area. The warming trend continues into Monday due to the ridge axis being directly over Nevada. Highs across the region again will rise several degrees on Monday. Highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s are forecast with sunny skies. Dry weather is forecast across the entire forecast area under the ridge pattern both Sunday and Monday. .LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Sunday A trough approaches from the Pacific Northwest, bringing light rain showers with isolated thunderstorms across far northeastern Nevada Tuesday and Wednesday. Dry conditions for the rest of the CWA with increasing west-northwest winds by midweek. As the trough progresses eastward, a ridge of high pressure builds over the region. High temperatures will gradually warm into the upper 70s and lower 80s by late next week with overnight lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions at all terminals over the next 24 hours, with mostly sunny/clear skies and light winds. && .HYDROLOGY...Temperatures will warm today and early next week and flows on many small creeks and streams are expected to again rise, possibly into action stage for some, such as Lamoille Creek. The lower Humboldt continues to run strong with Battle Mountain currently in action stage and Comus forecast to enter action stage early next week.
