Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
210 PM SST Thu May 16 2024

.Short term...
A strong ridge will hold breezy conditions and a dry pattern over
the territory through Friday. The upper air sounding from this
afternoon as well as satellite data indicates a dry and stable
atmosphere. Hence, east winds of 15 to 25 mph and isolated
showers are expected through tonight. However, as the ridge
slightly recedes southeast Friday morning, this will allow a
trough to the north to move in the area. An uptick in showers and
decreasing winds are possible in this scenario, so we anticipate
numerous showers and moderate winds (Northeast at 10 to 15 mph) through
Saturday.

.Long term...
The aforementioned ridge will build over the region once again by
Sunday. Expect the trough to diminish, while breezy trade winds
return with showers embedded within the trade wind flow. Hence,
scattered showers and east winds of 15 to 25 mph will prevail
through Monday. Thereafter, the ridge will gradually diminish in
the area and east winds of 10 to 15 mph will hold for the rest of
the forecast period.

.Marine...
Latest wave heights continue around 10 to 12 feet due to a
combination of breezy winds and a south swell. Expect the high
surf advisory and small craft advisory to hold through Friday with
the aforementioned factors. However, the south swell will
gradually diminish Friday, thus diminishing surfs, while choppy
seas persist up to Monday due breezy conditions.
