Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

Dry weather expected through the day, with highs in the 70s.
Mostly clear skies will prevail, with increasing winds shifting to
the south-southeast. Strongest winds this afternoon will be west
of the James River, sustained 15 to 20 mph and gusts to 35 mph.
Further east, winds remain around 10-15 mph and gusts around 25
mph. Minimum humidity values will be above 30%, with values near
45% west of the James River. Winds remain breezy after sunset.

Shower and storm chances return late tonight, continuing through
Friday night. A brief break in rain and storm chances expected
during the day Saturday; however, showers and storms return
Saturday night through the early part of next week. Outside of
showers and storms, near normal temperatures and breezy
conditions prevail.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
