704 FNUS63 KFSD 190948 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 448 AM CDT Sun May 19 2024 .DISCUSSION... Expect periods of scattered showers and storms today and tonight with rainfall totals by Monday morning of at least a quarter inch. Southeast winds gusting into the 30s this morning turn more southerly this afternoon. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible tonight. Rain should clear out for Monday morning through early afternoon, bringing a slightly warmer day with pockets of sunshine and a breezy north wind. Rain chances increase through Monday night as widespread showers and storms spread through overnight through Tuesday morning. Though isolated severe storms are possible Monday night, the greater impact will likely be areas of heavy rainfall with a swath of 2 to 3 inches of rain from eastern SD into southwest and west central MN by Tuesday morning. Rain continues well into Tuesday with another chance of severe storms Tuesday afternoon, mainly across northwest IA where all hazards will be possible. Expect a dry period Tuesday night, but an active pattern aloft means low to moderate rain chances continue through the second half of the week. The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
