Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
206 PM SST Sun Jun 2 2024

.Short term...
Rainfall continues to diminish in the area as a strong ridge
builds to the south. Models have been spot on at forecasting the
flooding and intense winds experienced overnight through this
morning. For this reason, our confidence in the forecast for the
next few days is high. A dry pattern is expected as the
aforementioned ridge continues to dominate in the area. Hence,
flooding conditions and winds have fallen below watch and advisory
thresholds leading to the cancellation of the flood watch and
wind advisory. Scattered showers and a breezy trend will hold
through Tuesday.

.Long term...
By Tuesday night, model data suggests the ridge will weaken and
allow for a trough to the north to descend over the Islands.
Expect an uptick in showers by this time with the potential for
flooding to remain through Wednesday. However, a similar weather
pattern seen today is possible Thursday as the ridge to the south
strengthens once again.

.Marine...
Latest wave heights recorded via SOFAR drift buoys are around 10
to 12 feet. A High Surf Warning was dropped today as wave heights
have fallen below 15 feet. However, a high surf advisory and small
craft advisory remains in effect due to rough conditions produced
by the current wind pattern. Model trends depicts seas diminishing
through Tuesday as windspeeds continues to diminish. However, a
strong south swell will likely keep seas in advisory thresholds
through the end of the forecast period.
