Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
430 AM CDT Sun Jun 2 2024

Today:

Areas of fog had developed over many portion of eastern Iowa into a
little bit of central Iowa early this morning. High clouds were
streaming above the fog as thunderstorms neared the Iowa border from
Nebraska as of 430am. Temperatures were largely in the 50s to low 60s
with light to calm winds.

The storms entering the state from the west will diminish in intensity
and coverage, though a few showers or storms could fester into the
afternoon. Severe storms may develop later this afternoon into this
evening over northern Iowa with damaging wind gusts and locally heavy
rainfall the main concerns.

Tonight and beyond:

Later this evening, another round of severe storms will approach Iowa
and while their intensity will once again be subsiding, they may still
produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall as they move thorugh
western Iowa. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out, but any
occurrence will depend on the intensity of the storms as they move
into the state. Monday may have some lingering showers or storms, but
the next widespread chance of storms will come later Tuesday. Strong
to severe storms may be possible along with locally heavy rainfall.
Temperatures will be a bit above normal for the first part of the
week, but will turn more seasonal with drier air for the latter half
of the week.
