.DISCUSSION...
A trough passing to the north will support gusty northwest winds
peaking this evening at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph for the I-5
corridor east to the western Antelope Valley and southern Santa Barbara
County (strongest southwest portion of the County). Fortunately humidity
values during this time will generally be above 30 percent, except
locally down to 20 percent in the Western Antelope Valley late this
afternoon or early evening.
High pressure will build over the West Coast through Wednesday before
pushing east but remaining nearby near New Mexico. This will likely
lower the marine layer some and allow the warmest coastal valleys to
approach 90 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. Over the mountains and
interior valleys, temperatures between 95 and 105 will become common
with humidities likely falling into the 10 to 20 percent range. While
the winds do not look strong, but the combination of hot and dry
conditions with typical breezy diurnal wind patterns will lead to an
elevated risk for grass fires.
As the ridge breaks down over the region late in the week there is about
a 10 percent chance that enough moisture moves in from the south or east
for showers or isolated thunderstorms focused across the mountains and
deserts of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
NOTE: Beginning Today, June 3, NWS WFO Los Angeles/Oxnard will enter
the fire weather high season operations. This FWF product will be issued
twice daily including weekends. The morning issuance will occur between
900 and 930 AM and the afternoon product will be issued between 300 and
330 PM. As always, National Weather Service forecasters are available
24/7 for spot forecast requests and consultation.
