On Wednesday, a cold front will approach from the northwest and pass through the area during the mid-afternoon hours, generally between 1400-1600. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop once again during the early afternoon hours and be in the vicinity through the early evening hours, followed by isolated showers Wednesday night through Thursday. This activity will be associated with the cold front. Given the relatively dry atmosphere, wetting rains will be spotty and isolated with lightning and gusty, erratic outflow winds being the main threats. Temperatures will be around 10F above normal today, then fall back to around normal for Thursday and Friday behind the front. A modest warmup will begin this weekend, with temperatures rising to slightly above normal for this time of year. A grazing, mainly dry, weak cold front may swing through southern Idaho this weekend, maintaining a very low (15% or less) chance for precipitation in the forecast. Going into next week, there is high confidence that a strong ridge of high pressure will build across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, bringing an extended period of hot, dry weather to the area, beginning early next week and likely extending through next week. .TODAY...
