Hydrometeorological Discussion
National Weather Service / California Nevada RFC / Sacramento CA
635 AM PDT Tue Jun 4 2024

...WARM TO HOT TEMPS TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY...
...SCATTERED CONVECTION POSSIBLE FROM THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

.METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (TUE AM - MON AM)...

The s/wv trof moving across the Pacific Northwest with the
associated cold front moving across northern CA and northern NV has
moved off toward the east...shifting from the Rocky Mountain states
to the Great Plains states this morning. And now...the heat begins
to build across the region as high pressure from the southwest moves
overhead and strengthens. Temperatures will ramp up and peak either
Wednesday or Thursday generally in the plus 10- to plus 20-degF over
seasonal norms. This is expected to be the warmest/hottest airmass
so far this year. By the end of the week...the upr ridge axis gets
displaced a tad downstream of the area as a s/wv trof makes its way
across the northeast Pacific and weakens as it moves closer to BC
and the Pacific Northwest. This will help temper the heat a bit for
the upcoming weekend...but still expect above normal afternoon high
temperatures. Also...there may be enough moisture and instability to
generate some afternoon/early evening showers and thunderstorms from
Thursday through the weekend primarily over the crest of the Sierra
and the higher terrain near the CA/OR border and northern NV.
