Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains
National Weather Service Hastings NE
1018 PM CDT Sat Apr 13 2024

Focusing on these next three days of weather across our
central/south central Nebraska and north central Kansas
coverage area...the thing to emphasize right off the bat is that Sunday will
feature by far the nicest conditions for outdoor activities...as long as you
don’t mind a little early-spring heat. Beyond Sunday...the winds
will pick up big-time for Monday and Tuesday...along with chances
for rain and thunderstorms...some of which will likely be severe.
Going into a bit more detail one day at a time...and starting with
Sunday...this will truly be a day to enjoy for warm weather lovers.
Under plentiful sunshine...afternoon temperatures will top out at
least well into the 80s area-wide...with a 90 degree reading
possible especially in our Kansas counties. It will not be
overly-windy Sunday...but it will be a little breezy...so be
prepared for gusts as high as 15 to 25 MPH at times. Turning to
Monday...the daylight hours should be mostly dry and
thunderstorm-free...but winds will gradually crank up out of the
southeast...with gusts of at least 35 to 45 MPH likely during the
afternoon. Although a few late afternoon thunderstorms cannot be
ruled out...much better chances for thunderstorm activity will
arrive late Monday evening and continue into the early Tuesday
morning hours. Our entire area is under a Slight Risk for severe
storms during this time...so please remain weather aware. On Tuesday
daytime...showers and thunderstorms remain likely across much of our
area...but fortunately...the primary risk for truly severe storms
should shift slightly off to our east. However...it will remain very
windy...with gusts of at least 40 to 50 MPH likely as winds switch
to more of a westerly direction.
