In 1942, over two inches of rain produced damaging flash floods
during the early morning hours between McCook and Cambridge
in Red Willow County, Nebraska. Farm buildings and livestock
along the Coon Creek were swept away. The floods produced
considerable damage in Bartley, Indianola and Cambridge.
Almost every business in Indianola was impacted by the flood.
Sections of railroad tracks were washed away. Adjusted for inflation,
the total loss in the flood area was around 1.5 million dollars. The
Republican River also rose to bankful with slight overflows reported
in South Central Nebraska.
