FAIR WEATHER CUMULUS CLOUDS PREVAILED ACROSS THE RUSHMORE STATE
ON ANOTHER COOLER BUT PLEASANT MID SUMMER AFTERNOON. LOW HUMIDITY
LEVELS WERE ENJOYED BY ALL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS...WITH
TEMPERATURES MAINLY IN THE 70S ACROSS THE PLAINS. HIGHS OF AROUND
80 DEGREES RETURNED AT PHILIP /81 DEGREES/ AND BUFFALO /80 DEGREES/.
WINDS WERE LIGHT AND VARIABLE ACROSS THE EAST...WITH STRONGER
SOUTHERLY WINDS AT 10 TO 20 MPH ACROSS THE WEST...WHERE A FEW GUSTS
TO AROUND 25 MPH WERE SEEN FROM TIME TO TIME.

ISOLATED AND SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS ROAMED THE WESTERN AND
SOUTHERN BLACK HILLS FROM MIDDAY INTO THE EARLY EVENING...MAINLY
ALONG AND WEST OF A JEWEL CAVE TO MOON TO DEERFIELD LINE. RADAR
INDICATED SPOTTY HEAVIER RAINFALL...PERHAPS LOCALLY AN INCH OR TWO
NEAR MOON.

AT 8 PM CDT...CLOUDINESS ACROSS MOST OF THE STATE WAS ON THE
DOWNTREND...WITH GREATEST CONCENTRATIONS REMAINING NEAR THE JAMES
VALLEY...SOUTH CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA...AND THE BLACK HILLS.
TEMPERATURES WERE STARTING TO FALL BACK...MAINLY IN THE 70S ON THE
PLAINS...AND RANGING FROM 69 DEGREES AT PINE RIDGE TO 76 DEGREES AT
HURON. WINDS REMAINED LIGHT IN THE EAST...AND SOUTHERLY AT 5 TO 15
MPH IN THE WEST.  ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUED IN
THE SOUTHWESTERN BLACK HILLS NEAR JEWEL CAVE.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS RAVAGED PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA ON
THIS DATE IN 1984. DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH WERE COMMON...
WITH 64 MPH WINDS MEASURED IN SIOUX FALLS...AND WINDS TO AROUND 75
MPH ACROSS MUCH OF YANKTON AND CLAY COUNTIES...WHICH DAMAGED
NUMEROUS GRAIN BINS.

THE EXTREME HEAT OF 1936 CONTINUED ON THIS DATE WITH HIGH
TEMPERATURES FROM 20 TO 30 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. HIGH TEMPERATURES
FROM AROUND THE STATE INCLUDE...

116 DEGREES AT MOBRIDGE
