...JULY WAS VERY SOGGY IN JUNEAU...

LEAVING A WETTER THAN NORMAL JUNE BEHIND...THE HOPES FOR WARM AND
DRY JULY IN JUNEAU HAD MIXED RESULTS. RAIN AT THE START OF THE
MONTH GAVE WAY TO A 4 DAY STRETCH OF WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS THAT
BEGAN ON THE INDEPENDENCE HOLIDAY BEFORE THE RAINS RETURNED. THOSE
4 DAYS WERE THE MAJORITY OF DRY DAYS IN THE MONTH AS IT PROCEEDED
TO RAIN 21 OF THE NEXT 24 DAYS. MEASURABLE RAIN FELL ON 24 OF THE
31 DAYS DURING THE MONTH WITH 7 DAYS REPORTING MORE THAN 1/2 INCH
OF RAIN. NORMALLY...ONLY 3 DAYS IN JULY SEE 1/2 INCH OF RAIN OR
MORE.

THIS PAST JULY WAS THE WETTEST ON RECORD FOR JUNEAU WITH 10.40
INCHES OF RAIN RECORDED AT THE AIRPORT. THIS TOPS THE OLD RECORD
FROM 1997 BY 0.04 INCHES. IN SPITE OF THE RECORD MONTHLY
RAINFALL...ONLY ONE DAILY RECORD FOR RAIN WAS BROKEN DURING THE
MONTH. ON JULY 23 THE OLD RECORD OF 1.14 INCHES WAS SHATTERED WHEN
2.00 INCHES WAS RECORDED AT THE AIRPORT.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS JUST AROUND A DEGREE WARMER THAN
NORMAL WHICH RANKED IT IN THE TOP 15 WARMEST ON RECORD FOR THE
MONTH. THE ABOVE NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS A RESULT OF THE
WARM LOW TEMPERATURES DURING THE MONTH THAT RANKED THE 3RD WARMEST
ON RECORD. THE DAYTIME HIGHS WERE HAMPERED BY SIGNIFICANT CLOUD
COVER DURING THE MONTH. HOWEVER...OF THE 7 DRY DAYS...5 OF THEM
SAW DAYTIME HIGHS OVER 70 DEGREES...INCLUDING A TOASTY 84 DEGREES
ON THE 6TH.
