WASHINGTON DC...REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT...

THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS WELL ABOVE NORMAL...AND RANKED
AS THE SECOND WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD. MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS
NEAR NORMAL.

A TEMPERATURE OF 100 DEGREES OR GREATER WAS OBSERVED ON THREE DAYS
LAST MONTH. THE ONLY OTHER TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS IN 1930 WHEN IT
HAPPENED FIVE TIMES.

THREE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET LAST MONTH. A HIGH OF
99 ON THE 12TH TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1926 AND 1900. A
HIGH OF 101 ON THE 13TH TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1881. A
HIGH OF 100 ON THE 14TH TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1943.

FOUR DAILY HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET LAST MONTH. A
LOW OF 81 ON THE 12TH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 78 SET IN 2005...1980
AND 1926. A LOW OF 81 ON THE 13TH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 79 SET IN
1995. A LOW OF 80 ON THE 14TH TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY SET IN
2002. A LOW TEMPERATURE OF 77 ON THE 26TH TIED THE RECORD PREVIOUSLY
SET IN 1993.

THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 81 OBSERVED ON BOTH THE 12TH AND 13TH ALSO
TIED FOR THE HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF ANY DAY IN AUGUST ON
RECORD. IT ALSO HAPPENED ON AUGUST 3RD 2006.

A DAILY MAXIMUM RAINFALL RECORD OF 1.16 INCHES WAS SET ON THE
15TH...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 1.15 SET IN 1941.

RECORDS AT RONALD REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT BEGAN IN 1941. ADDITIONAL
RECORDS FROM THE OFFICE FORMERLY LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN WASHINGTON DC
EXTEND BACK TO 1872.
