FLOOD STATEMENT

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers in
western Indiana...

  Wabash River...


.Flood waters along the Wabash River continue to recede.  The river
will fall below flood stage from Vincennes to New Harmony by
Thursday evening.  For the first time in 8 weeks...the river will go
below flood stage from Lafayette to Hutsonville by August 5th.

Rainfall for the week ending August 4th is expected around one half
of an inch in much of east central Illinois and central and southern
Indiana.  As a result the Wabash River will continue to slowly
recede through the week of August 2nd


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river
conditions.

  The Wabash River at Lafayette.
* until further notice.
* At  7:46 AM Wednesday the stage was 12.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to a stage of 12.3 feet
  by tomorrow morning.
* At 12.0 feet...High water affects a few low river cabins and county
  roads.

* At  7:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 18.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  early Saturday morning.
* At 18.0 feet...Five Crossings, a local county river park at old U.S.
  Highway 136 bridge site begins to flood.

* until Saturday evening.
* At  7:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 18.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  late Saturday morning.
* At 18.0 feet...Montezuma agricultural levee is overtopped.  Fourteen
  hundred acres of low bottomlands flood.  Lowest bottomlands flood.

* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 18.2
  feet this afternoon.
* At 18.0 feet...River road near Mecca and lowest areas of river park
  at Clinton begin to flood.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Terre Haute.
* until Sunday afternoon.
* At  7:00 AM Wednesday the stage was 17.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* At 17.0 feet...Water begins to rise in the Izzak Walton Lake.  Sheet
  flowing water begins in the wetland project between US 40 and I-70
  and during a prolong flood event project fills about 75%.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Hutsonville Legacy Power Plant Site.
* until Tuesday evening.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 19.3
  feet this afternoon.
* At 20.0 feet...Leaverton Park in Palestine and park in Hutsonville
  begins to flood.  Agricultural flooding spreads to higher land.
  Seep water is noticeable behind levees.  Some elevated river
  cottages are surrounded by water.  Several county or township roads
  east of Lincoln Heritage Trail between Palestine and Hutsonville in
  Crawford County Illinois are impassable.

* until Wednesday August 05.
* At  7:00 AM Wednesday the stage was 18.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Tuesday early afternoon.
* At 18.5 feet...High water surround elevated river cabins.  County
  roads to these cabins are impassable.  Agricultural flooding is in
  progress.  Seep water develops behind levees.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Vincennes.
* until late Thursday night.
* At  7:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 16.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  tomorrow early afternoon.
* At 17.0 feet...Considerable agricultural flooding extends from just
  north of the junction of Illinois 33 with Business 50 to the St.
  Francesville, Illinois area.  River Road from Lincoln Memorial
  Bridge to Billett Rd is impassable.  Extensive seep water forms
  behind Illinois levees extending from Russellville to U.S. Highway
  50.  Flooding of agricultural land begins in Knox County Indiana
  west of the railroad extending for the Oaktown area to the north
  side of Vincennes.  Extensive flooding of Small Creek.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Mount Carmel.
* until late tonight.
* At  5:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 19.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  this afternoon.
* At 20.0 feet...River is bankfull in all locations.  All oil field
  production ceases with the exception of pumping units on
  substructures.  Access to these are by boat only.  Agricultural
  losses increase dramatically.  Farmers move livestock to higher
  ground.  City of Mount Carmel leaves flood gates B and C in year
  round.
