FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NORTHERN ALABAMA

.DISCUSSION...
AS A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE DRIFTS EAST THROUGH THE OHIO AND
TENNESSEE VALLEYS TODAY, LIGHT NORTHERLY FLOW WILL TURN TO THE
NORTHEAST AND EAST BY THIS EVENING.  GENERALLY GOOD SMOKE
DISPERSION IS EXPECTED WITH MIXING HEIGHTS PEAKING AROUND
4500 FT AGL THIS AFTERNOON. SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BEGIN
TO INCREASE ON THURSDAY AS A FAST MOVING COLD FRONT APPROACHES
THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.  GOOD SMOKE DISPERSION IS EXPECTED WITH
MIXING HEIGHTS PEAKING IN THE 5000-6000 FT AGL RANGE IN NORTHEAST
ALABAMA AND FROM 6000-7500 FT AGL IN NORTHWEST ALABAMA. THE COLD
FRONT WILL ARRIVE LATE THURSDAY NIGHT BRINGING A BAND OF SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS.  A WEAK HIGH PRESSURE CELL WILL MOVE INTO
THE REGION SATURDAY BEHIND THE FRONT AS IT DROPS SOUTH.  THE
FRONT WILL RETURN NORTHWARD ON SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT BRINGING
ANOTHER CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.
