FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
239 PM PDT WED AUG 24 2016

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY UNTIL
8 PM PDT THIS EVENING...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 9 PM PDT THURSDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...THERMAL TROUGH DEVELOPING OVER THE
VALLEY TODAY WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS. DRY AND BREEZY
OFFSHORE FLOW LIKELY STARTING LATE TODAY AND LASTING THROUGH
FRIDAY WITH UNSTABLE CONDITIONS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THEN ONSHORE
FLOW RETURNS LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.

.DISCUSSION...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL EXTEND OVER THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST THROUGH FRIDAY...PLACING THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY UNDER THE
PRIME AREA OF SUBSIDENCE AND SURFACE HEATING. A DEVELOPING THERMAL
TROUGH WILL PRIMARILY STAY OVER THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY DURING THE
DAY WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY THEN DRIFT TO THE COAST DURING EACH
OVERNIGHT PERIOD. THIS LOOKS TO BRING DRY WINDS OUT OF THE EAST TO
NORTHEAST (OFFSHORE FLOW) ACROSS THE CASCADES AND THE VALLEY...BUT
DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A FULL BLOWN EAST WIND EVENT. THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY ARE EXPECTED TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY UNSTABLE IN ADDITION TO
HOT AND VERY DRY. ALTHOUGH ALL LOCAL ZONES ARE INCLUDED IN THE RED
FLAG WARNING FOR THURSDAY...RH VALUES WILL REMAIN ABOVE 25 PERCENT
ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST. WINDS SHOULD PEAK THURSDAY AFTERNOON
AND LIGHTEN FRIDAY.

LOOKS LIKE ONSHORE FLOW WILL RETURN SATURDAY AND STICK AROUND
THROUGH THE 7-DAY FORECAST PERIOD. RH VALUES WILL GENERALLY
REMAIN ABOVE 25 PERCENT STARTING SATURDAY AS ONSHORE FLOW BRINGS
HIGHER MOISTURE AIR INTO THE AREA.
