FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
223 PM PDT SUN JUL 27 2014

...THUNDERSTORM CHANCES INCREASING ACROSS THE CASCADES THIS
WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A WARMING AND DRYING TREND IS WELL UNDERWAY
WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.
NIGHTTIME HUMIDITY RECOVERIES WILL REMAIN VERY POOR ACROSS THE
CASCADE RIDGES THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY NIGHT DUE TO A SUBSIDENCE
INVERSION. THERMAL LOW PRESSURE OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL
CONTINUE NORTHERLY WINDS...AND PRODUCE A SHORT PERIOD OF HAINES
6...MAINLY TONIGHT AND MONDAY. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL INCREASE
ACROSS THE CASCADES THIS WEEK AS THE UPPER LEVEL FLOW TURNS MORE
SOUTHERLY AND MID LEVEL MOISTURE INCREASES.

.DISCUSSION...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS EVERYWHERE EXCEPT ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST. A
SUBSIDENCE INVERSION NEAR 4000 FT WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA
THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY NIGHT...BRINGING VERY POOR HUMIDITY
RECOVERIES ABOVE THIS ELEVATION. THE ATMOSPHERE WILL LIKELY BE
MOST UNSTABLE TONIGHT INTO MONDAY...LIKELY RESULTING IN HAINES
6...BUT INCREASING MOISTURE WILL LIKELY RESULT IN MORE MODEST
HAINES VALUES OF 4 AND 5 LATER THIS WEEK. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL LOW
PRESSURE CURRENTLY OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST IS EXPECTED TO MOVE
NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE AREA THIS EVENING...POSSIBLY TRIGGERING A
THUNDERSTORM OR TWO FOR THE OREGON CASCADES...BUT MORE LIKELY JUST
BRINGING SOME MID TO UPPER LEVEL CLOUDS. HOWEVER...MID LEVEL WINDS
WILL TURN MORE SOUTHERLY AND BRING ADDITIONAL MOISTURE THAT WILL
STAND A BETTER CHANCE OF BRINGING ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS TO THE
CASCADE CREST THROUGH MIDWEEK. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES LOOK TO
TEMPORARILY PEAK SOME TIME WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY. ASIDE FROM THE
USUAL SEA BREEZE CYCLE ALONG THE COAST...AND SOME GUSTY NW TO N
WINDS BLOWING UP THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY IN THE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...WINDS WILL GENERALLY REMAIN TERRAIN DRIVEN. /NEUMAN
