Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
222 PM PDT Tue May 23 2017

...940 am briefings to begin Tuesday, May 30th...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A marine push was underway across the
forecast area Tuesday afternoon, and will continue into Wednesday.
The marine air will bring a cooler air mass with a chance for
drizzle or light showers over some of the northern areas into
Thursday. Onshore flow weakens late in the week, with a ridge of
high pressure aloft rebuilding Friday and continuing into Sunday.

.DISCUSSION...An onshore flow was strengthening across northwest
Oregon and southwest Washington Tuesday afternoon as a marine push
was underway. Cooler air will continue to surge inland tonight and
Wednesday, resulting in gusty west winds, particularly in and near
the Gorge from Cascade Locks eastward. The marine air will keep a
chance for drizzle or light showers in parts of the northern
forecast area into Thursday. An upper level trough of low pressure
over the interior of Washington and Oregon Thursday will bring a
slight chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms to the
Cascade crest. A low level onshore flow pattern continues later in
the week and through the weekend, but weakens considerably. A
ridge of high pressure aloft will rebuild over the region Friday
and remain through Sunday, resulting in warming temperatures
Thursday through Sunday.
