...UPDATED WIND ADVISORY CRITERIA FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE...

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN
NASHVILLE WILL BEGIN ISSUING WIND ADVISORY PRODUCTS BASED ON
UPDATED THRESHOLDS.

THESE THRESHOLDS WERE UPDATED IN COORDINATION WITH SURROUNDING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICES AND TO BRING CRITERIA BETTER IN
LINE WITH REGIONAL AND NATIONAL STANDARDS.

THE UPDATED CRITERIA ARE AS FOLLOWS...

WIND ADVISORY:

SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 39 MPH AND/OR WIND GUSTS OF 40 TO 57 MPH
FOR ANY DURATION.

NO CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO HIGH WIND WATCH/WARNING CRITERIA
WHICH IS AS FOLLOWS...

HIGH WIND WATCH/WARNING:

SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 MPH OR HIGHER AND/OR WIND GUSTS OF 58 MPH
OR HIGHER FOR ANY DURATION.

WIND ADVISORY PRODUCTS ARE DESIGNED TO ALERT THE PUBLIC TO STRONG
AND GUSTY WINDS THAT MAY CAUSE MINOR PROPERTY DAMAGE...BLOW DOWN
A FEW TREES OR POWER LINES...CAUSE ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES...OR
CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.

HIGH WIND WATCH/WARNING PRODUCTS ARE DESIGNED TO ALERT THE PUBLIC
FOR STRONG TO POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WINDS THAT MAY CAUSE
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES...BLOW DOWN NUMEROUS TREES OR
POWER LINES...CAUSE WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES...OR CREATE VERY
HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
