Backcountry Forecast for western Montana and north central Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
224 PM MDT Wed Apr 16 2014

.Discussion...A low amplitude ridge of high pressure will serve
as some limited protection from the influx of moisture coming in
off the Pacific ocean on Thursday. Any chances of precipitation
will be confined to the Idaho Panhandle and northwest Montana
mountains with snow mainly above 6000 feet.

The next impactful period will occur Thursday night as a vigorous
frontal system passes through the Northern Rockies region. This
system possesses considerable moisture and strong dynamics. We will
see snow levels lower quickly after midnight with accumulating
snow developing in the mountains along the Idaho/Montana border,
as well as along the Continental Divide north of U.S. Highway 12.

Strong westerly winds and additional snow showers will follow this
frontal system during the day Friday. Snow and wind will be
diminishing Friday evening in response to higher pressure
building in from the west.
