Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL
353 PM CDT Mon Mar 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated Fire Weather Risk for Tuesday...

West southwest winds 10-15 mph this evening will gradually
increase overnight before daytime heating rapidly mixes down gusts
to 35 mph by mid morning Tuesday. Winds will maintain a similar
magnitude through the day while becoming west northwest behind the
front. While some low-level moisture advection is expected with
the front, antecedent dry low-levels and robust mixing will allow
relative humidity values to fall into the 30 to 35 percent range
area-wide and possibly below 30% across portions of east-central
IL and northwest IN. These conditions will support an elevated
risk for grass and brush fire spread on Tuesday.

Behind the front on Tuesday, colder conditions will arrive
through the remainder of the week. While the cooler air mass will
also lead to lower RH values on Wednesday (readings of 25-30%),
winds on Wednesday are expected to be lighter which should limit
the fire weather risk. A wintry mix of rain and snow with some
accumulations, especially closer to the Wisconsin line, is
possible Thursday night into Friday.
