Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL
1013 AM CDT Mon Mar 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...Skies will be mostly cloudy today with a chance of
flurries. Northwest winds will gust around 20 mph with minimum
relative humidity levels in the 35 to 40 percent range.

West southwest winds 10-15 mph this evening will gradually
increase overnight before daytime heating rapidly mixes down gusts
to 35 mph by mid morning Tuesday. Winds will maintain a similar
magnitude through the day while becoming west northwest behind the
front. While some low-level moisture advection is expected with the
front, antecedent dry low-levels and robust mixing will allow
relative humidity values to fall below 40% area-wide and possibly
below 30% across east-central IL and northwest IN. This will support
an elevated fire weather risk with a 30% chance of conditions meeting
criteria for a Red Flag Warning around and south of the Kankakee
River Valley.

Behind the front on Tuesday, colder conditions will arrive through
the remainder of the week. A wintry mix of rain and snow with some
accumulations, especially closer to the Wisconsin line, is possible
Thursday night into Friday.
