Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mobile AL
442 AM CDT Wed Mar 27 2024

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.NEAR TERM...
(Now through Thursday)
Issued at 442 AM CDT Wed Mar 27 2024

Given recent rains, clear skies, light winds and a bit of a low
level inversion tonight, some areas of fog have developed across
interior south central Alabama. Areas of fog will likely develop
across these areas with some patchy dense fog developing. As a
result, a dense fog advisory has been issued for these areas until
9 am. Drier conditions will persist through Thursday despite deep
layer southwesterly flow continuing. The main upper trough that
brought us rain Monday night continues to slowly drift eastward.
As a result drier air has moved into the area despite southwesterly
to westerly flow a loft. At the surface, high pressure continues
to build over the Arkansas in the wake of the surface cold front.
This will continue to usher in drier and cooler air into the area.
No rain is expected across the area and today and Thursday should
remain mostly sunny. Temperatures will remain pleasant for spring
with highs today and Thursday in the upper 60s to low 70s and
lows tonight in the 40s. A high risk of rip currents remains in
effect as seas slowly continue to subside. BB/03

.SHORT/LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 442 AM CDT Wed Mar 27 2024

The broad upper trough will be moving east east of our area by
Thursday night, with a more northwesterly upper flow developing
across our area. Slight ridging aloft will then develop and
persist over our area Friday through Monday, as surface high
pressure drifts eastward across the area as well. Deep south to
southwesterly flow returns to the area by Tuesday as both upper
ridging and surface high pressure move off to the east of our
area. Very dry airmass Thursday night through early Saturday will
gradually moisten up beginning late Saturday, and then even
moreso Sunday through Tuesday. Even with the moisture returning,
the forecast should remain rain-free Thursday night through early
Tuesday with a overall subsident pattern associated with the weak
upper ridging. As moisture deepens late Tuesday into early
Wednesday of next week, the next frontal boundary is expected to
move toward and into the area from the west, bringing the next
chance for rain, when we will be looking at a chance for showers
and isolated thunderstorms. As far as temperatures go, we will be
looking at a moderating trend through most of the short/long term.
Nighttime lows warming from the 40s on Thursday night to the 60s
by Monday night. Daytime highs in the 70s Friday and Saturday
climbing into the 80s Sunday through Tuesday. A slight cool down
again Tuesday night into Wednesday with the frontal passage and
associated increased rain chances, with lows again in the 50s
Tuesday night and highs on Wednesday back down into the 70s. DS/12
