Flood Statement

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers in
Indiana...

  Wabash River...White River...



.Lowland river flooding continues along the Wabash River in western
Indiana from Lafayette to near Vincennes and will develop by Tuesday
along the White River downstream of Edwardsport. Much of the Wabash
has crested or remains nearly steady while the White continues to
slowly rise. An area of a half inch to one inch fell across Central
Indiana generally north of Interstate 74 over the last several days.

Rain is possible again Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.  A half
inch of rain is expected with locally higher amounts possible.
Flooding of one to four feet above flood stage is expected.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river
conditions.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The White River at Edwardsport.
* from late Monday night to Thursday morning.
* At  7:00 AM Sunday the stage was 12.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Tuesday morning and continue
  to rise to near 15.6 feet by early Wednesday morning.  The river
  will fall below flood stage by Wednesday before midnight.
* At 16.0 feet...Old Vincennes Road and residential property in this
  area begin to flood.  Flooding of low agricultural fields occurs
  along portions of the river.

* from Tuesday evening to Thursday evening.
* At 10:30 AM Sunday the stage was 12.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Tuesday before midnight and
  continue to rise to near 16.4 feet by Wednesday evening.  The river
  will fall below flood stage by late Thursday morning.
* At 16.0 feet...Flooding affects agricultural lands.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The White River at Hazleton.
* from Wednesday morning to Friday evening.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 16.9
  feet Thursday morning.
* At 17.0 feet...Lowest reading available from the Hazleton Staff
  Gage.  Since the 1930s the White River has moved from the "old
  wellhouse" to several hundred yards from the "old wellhouse".  The
  river returns to the "old wellhouse" around 17 to 17.5 feet.

* At 10:45 AM Sunday the stage was 12.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 12.2 feet by this
  afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow
  afternoon.
* At 12.0 feet...High water affects a few low river cabins and county
  roads.

* until Tuesday afternoon.
* At 10:45 AM Sunday the stage was 17.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Tuesday morning.
* At 17.5 feet...Some low agricultural fields flood.  Backyard flood
  of cottages a short distance north of U.S. Highway 136.  High water
  blocks land access to at least one residence.

* At 10:45 AM Sunday the stage was 18.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 18.3 feet by this
  afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage Wednesday early
  afternoon.
* At 18.0 feet...Montezuma agricultural levee is overtopped.  Fourteen
  hundred acres of low bottomlands flood.

  The Wabash River at Terre Haute.
* until Thursday afternoon.
* At 10:00 AM Sunday the stage was 16.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Thursday morning.
* At 17.0 feet...Water begins to rise in the Izaak Walton Lake.  Sheet
  flowing water begins in the wetland project between U.S. 40 and
  I-70, and during a prolonged flood event project fills about 75
  percent.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Wabash River at Hutsonville Legacy Power Plant Site.
* until Saturday morning.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 19.6
  feet this afternoon.
* At 20.0 feet...Leaverton Park in Palestine and park in Hutsonville
  begin to flood.  Agricultural flooding spreads to higher land.
  Seep water is noticeable behind levees.  Some elevated river
  cottages are surrounded by water.  Several county or township roads
  east of Lincoln Heritage Trail between Palestine and Hutsonville in
  Crawford County Illinois are impassable.

* until Saturday morning.
* At 10:00 AM Sunday the stage was 18.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by
  Friday before midnight.
* At 18.5 feet...High water surrounds elevated river cabins.  County
  roads to these cabins are impassable.  Agricultural flooding is in
  progress.  Seep water develops behind levees.
