Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California...Updated
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
900 PM PDT Sun Jun 25 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM TO 9 PM PDT MONDAY FOR WIND
AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE SANTA CLARITA AND ANTELOPE VALLEYS
AS WELL AS THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS...

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS OVER ALL INTERIOR AREAS THROUGH
TUESDAY...

.DISCUSSION Update...

Have added Red Flag Warning valid Monday morning for the Antelope
Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and the L.A. County Mountains as latest
models continued to show very dry conditions with stronger onshore
flow, especially across the Highway 14 corridor into the Antelope
Valley and adjacent foothills.

An upper level ridge of high pressure over Southern California will
begin to weaken Monday, then move east by Tuesday with a weak upper
level trough moving into the region through mid week. This will bring
a slow cooling trend to the area, with temperatures dropping 4 to 6
degrees by Monday over interior areas. Further cooling is expected
by Tuesday with highs over interior areas in the upper 90s to near
100 degrees. Minimum humidities in the teens and single digits are
expected to continue over the mountains and interior sections during
the period...although with very slight increases likely Monday and
again on Tuesday. Gusty west to northwest winds can be expected
during the afternoon to early evening hours through Tuesday...likely
strongest on Monday. Elevated fire weather concerns will exist
through the period, with critical fire weather conditions possible at
times especially in the afternoon and early evening hours. These
critical conditions should be of short duration...persisting less
than 6 hours during the later afternoon through early evening hours.

Over the coastal and adjacent valley areas, a shallow marine layer
will allow for somewhat cooler conditions over the coasts of Los
Angeles and Ventura Counties and the Central Coast. The Santa Barbara
South Coast will see highs in the 70s to mid 80s due to downslope
northerly flow. Moderate Sundowner winds are expected tonight
through Monday, which will result in elevated concerns for Santa
Barbara County especially this evening when conditions will be
hottest and driest.

Wednesday through Friday...the weak trough over the West Coast along
with a deepening marine layer will bring a cooling trend to the area
along with increasing night to morning low clouds and fog. By Friday
overnight low clouds are likely to spread inland to the lower
mountain slopes.
